i suppose really i'd just like some constructive criticism on the work i've posted and some advice/tips that anybody has for drawing/painting portraits (because mine really aren't as realistic as i'd like them to be.)

does anybody here use gouache paints? i've just been looking through krisatomic and i'm sure i read somewhere that she uses gouache paints to get the solid, bright, cartoonish effect:

anyway, i suppose what i'm asking is; if you use gouache paints, what do you use them for? how do you use them? do you use any other products with them (like linseed oil with oil paints?) do you have any pictures of your work?

i'm always looking for new materials to use and i've never used gouache.
(apologies if this isn't allowed - i just thought i should ask an art community.)

I completed a 365 series of self portraits in 2009 and am currently continuing with my second for this year. It's been an interesting ride. I set out to do this moreso as a documentation of self exploration and simply what I did that day. Some of my shots throughout are not my artistic best and mundane as all hell, but showcase a small fragment of my day or life. I'm posting a few of the more creative selections from both years, as well as a separate self portrait at the end. Thank you in advance for any comments/critiques.

I have one or two new oil paintings. They are generally around 48"x36", pretty large. I always forget exactly what I posted here last time, so I always tend to include a few re-posts at the end.
Forgive that. Painting is a slow process, and I like to include broader segments from my portfolio than just the last two months.

A lot of times I allow distortions in either the figures or perspective in my work. Sometimes it's on purpose, sometimes on accident. Feel free to judge and point out "my mistakes" (which I'm normally already aware of). Just keep in mind I respect my "mistakes" to a degree where I feel like they bring out my own, unique voice. Thanks.
